Bio:
Makiko Yoshida has been engaged in the planning and implementation of information, communications, and media policies at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan and other government agencies. In particular, she has led the development of rules for information distributed on the Internet, and has drafted a number of new laws, such as the Provider Liability Limitation Act, which stipulates rules for identifying illegal information senders. She also played active part internationally, participating in ICANN and IGF as Deputy Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications, and led discussions. She also tackled the ethical issues of AI from an early stage, and was the first to propose AI development principles at the G7 Ministerial Meeting. She worked in fields other than information and communications policy, such as serving as the Executive Secretary to the prime minister Shinzo Abe and as the Cabinet Public Relations Secretary in the Suga cabinet. Currently, after retiring from the civil service, she serves as a director of a leading media group in Japan, as well as an advisor to a global cybersecurity company and an AI startup in Japan, and is involved in university education at Waseda University and other universities.
